Ron Paul Campaign Statement on Rick Santorum Withdrawal

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign released the following statement concerning Rick Santorum’s decision to end his bid for the Republican nomination for the presidency.

Below please find brief comments from National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:

“Congratulations to Senator Santorum on running such a spirited campaign.  Dr. Paul is now the last – and real – conservative alternative to Mitt Romney.  We plan to continue running hard, secure delegates, and press the fight for limited, constitutional government in Tampa.”

Ron Paul Wins Key Victories in Missouri Caucus

Sweeps St. Louis City Caucus and doubles nearest delegate-winner Mitt Romney in Jackson County

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul won today key parts of the Missouri caucuses that concluded Saturday afternoon, demonstrating the effectiveness of his delegate-attainment strategy and the viability of his candidacy.

In the St. Louis City Caucus, the 12-term Congressman from Texas won 36 delegates and 36 alternate delegates to both the 1st Congressional District and to the Republican State Convention, meaning Dr. Paul cleanly swept this consequential part of the statewide nominating contest.  In total, Missouri’s 1st Congressional District has 103 delegates and Ron Paul won 36 of them as a result of winning the entire St. Louis City Caucus.  For comparison sake, in the St. Louis City Caucus, Ron Paul received 158 votes and the next-closest vote recipient Rick Santorum garnered just 74 votes, or less than half.

The larger Jackson County caucus also occurred.  In the 5th Congressional District, Ron Paul won 63 delegates, won all 144 alternate delegates, won 105 delegates to the Republican state convention, and won 144 alternates to the state convention.  In the 6th Congressional District, Dr. Paul swept all 39 delegates, won all 39 delegates to the state convention, and won 144 alternates to the state convention.

The countywide totals for Dr. Paul include 246 Congressional delegates, more than double Mitt Romney’s 120, and 360 alternate delegates for Ron Paul, a clean sweep in that regard.

Santorum and Newt Gingrich won zero Congressional delegates and alternate delegates in Jackson County.

Kansas City is the county seat of Jackson County, which has a population of more than 674,000 according to 2009 U.S. Census Bureau estimates.  Caucusing to determine the Republican nominee for the presidency began in The Show-Me State on Saturday, March 17th and concluded today, Saturday the 24th.

“Congratulations to Ron Paul’s Missouri supporters who carried out such a meaningful victory.  Today’s Show-Me State results illustrate that Ron Paul’s campaign organization alongside the grassroots is strong, agile, and able to win contests that are vital ahead of Tampa,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton, referring to the September Republican National Convention to be held in Florida.

Campaign is well-positioned in delegate race

 

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign released the following statement regarding the results of yesterday’s election results. See comments below from Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Manager John Tate.

 

“We are thrilled with the yesterday’s results. Our campaign to Restore America continues to gain ground, and we are poised to pick up even more delegates from Minnesota and Colorado adding to our delegates in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada.

 

“As people across the country view the results of  yesterday’s contests, it is important to consider a few facts that have not been clearly reported.  Not one single delegate was awarded yesterday, instead the caucuses in Minnesota and Colorado were the very first step in the delegate selection process. And there are still over 40 states left to go. The Ron Paul campaign plans to continue to vie for delegates nationwide.

 

“There are a few significant takeaways from yesterday’s contests to remember:

 

1) The Missouri primary means nothing. It was a non-binding beauty contest, and the contest that matters in the ‘show me’ state won’t take place for another month. The Ron Paul campaign is well positioned to win delegates in Missouri’s caucus a month from now.

 

2) As in Iowa where not 1 of the 28 delegates has been awarded yet, in Colorado and Nevada the Paul campaign will do very well in the state delegate counts. We will have good numbers among the actual delegates awarded, far exceeding our straw poll numbers.

 

3) In Minnesota where we have finished a solid second, we also have a strong majority of the state convention delegates, and the process to elect delegates has also just begun, the Paul campaign is well-organized to win the bulk of delegates there.

 

“We are confident in gaining a much larger share of delegates than even our impressive showing yesterday indicates. As an example of our campaign’s delegate strength, take a look at what has occurred in Colorado:

 

In one precinct in Larimer County, the straw poll vote was 23 for Santorum, 13 for Paul, 5 for Romney, 2 for Gingrich.  There were 13 delegate slots, and Ron Paul got ALL 13.

 

In a precinct in Delta County the vote was 22 for Santorum, 12 for Romney, 8 for Paul, 7 for Gingrich. There were 5 delegate slots, and ALL 5 went to Ron Paul.

 

In a Pueblo County precinct, the vote was 16 for Santorum, 11 for Romney, 3 for Gingrich and 2 for Paul. There were 2 delegate slots filled, and both were filled by Ron Paul supporters.

 

We are also seeing the same trends in Minnesota, Nevada, and Iowa, and in Missouri as well.

 

“We may well win Minnesota, and do far better in Colorado than yesterday’s polls indicate.

 

“In the latest national poll from Reuters/Ipsos Poll, Ron Paul places a strong second with 21 percent, gaining ground on his main competitor nationally, Mitt Romney, whose support seems to be fading at 29 percent.  Congressman Paul’s support has grown by 5 percentage points nationally since January, while Romney has seen a 30 percent decline in his support since January.

 

“This poll follows a January 30th Gallup Poll showing Dr. Paul within the margin of error of defeating Obama.  Also, a January 16th CNN/ORC Poll showed Congressman Paul and Obama in a virtual tie in a general election showdown.

 

“Yesterday’s contests were significant, but not a decisive or a conclusive end to this race. Our campaign will keep pushing forward and continue to take our message of liberty all the way to the convention. This race after all is about delegates, not about beauty contests.”

Nevada Vote Count Smells Fishy

Although the Nevada caucuses ended last night, only 71% of precincts have reported.  This smells fishy.  With electronic voting, results should be tabulated in an hour or so.  Paper ballots may take two to three hours, but no more.  Our much heralded “democracy” is corrupt.  Voter fraud, undercounting and overcounting, is occurring.  According to one source, Romney got two votes in one Iowa precinct, but it was reported as 22.  Ron Paul’s votes in Iowa, according to other sources, may have been tampered with because some of the ballots were counted in a closed room by GOP state officials.  Maybe the UN should monitor our primaries and elections like they do in third world countries.

 

At any rate, no one is dropping out of the GOP presidential primary race.  Ron is campaigning relentlessly and his message of limited government at home and abroad is being embraced by more and more people.  Whether this is the year an anti-big government GOP presidential candidate gets the nomination remains to be seen.  In the meantime, Mitt, Newt and Rick are sounding more like Ron on domestic issues but continue to mouth the neocon message on foreign policy issues.  McCain, if the three have not noticed, lost badly four years ago.  So why the three pro-war candidates think that endless war will be embraced by the public in the November general election is a mystery.

Ron Paul Support in South Carolina Surges and Puts Him Solidly in Top Three

Paul benefits from his trademark steady growth and his competitive Iowa, New Hampshire results

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul now polls an even stronger top three in the key early voting state of South Carolina, according to a new survey.

In the latest ARG poll Paul is in third place garnering 20 percent, with Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich in first and second place with 29 and 25 percent, respectively.  Other poll highlights include Paul polling strongest of all candidates among independents, and Paul polling strong among Tea Party members.

ARG polled 600 likely Republican primary voters on January 11th and 12th.  Since the last poll of its kind taken January 4th to 5th, Paul gained the most – surging from 9 to 20 percent – while Rick Santorum lost the most, freefalling from 24 to 7 percent.  In the prior poll, Paul was third at 9 percent, Gingrich and Santorum were tied for second at 24 percent, and Romney with 31 percent was first.  Over the life of the ARG poll this presidential cycle, Paul’s support has grown from 1 percent in April when he declared his candidacy to 20 percent, where it is today.

“On the heels of his competitive showings in Iowa and New Hampshire, Ron Paul is now surging in the key early voting state of South Carolina.  In a week’s time the congressman’s support in South Carolina has grown tremendously, attributed to the fact that more voters are learning about his platform of limited government and a return to personal and economic liberty,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

Ron Paul Wins GOP Straw Poll in Delegate-Rich Idaho

Handily defeats competitors in the Gem State

 

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul easily beat his competitors in the Idaho state Republican Party’s first-ever public presidential straw poll.  Paul earned 173 of the 399 votes cast statewide, followed by Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Jon Huntsman who earned 135, 47, 40, and 4 votes,  respectively.

 

The straw poll was held at the Riverside Hotel, located in Boise.  The Idaho Republican State Central Committee recently moved its voting contest to March 6th—Super Tuesday—and will nominate candidates using a county by county caucus system.  Idaho has 32 delegates at the 2012 Republican National Convention, more than Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada.

 

“Ron Paul has a tremendous support base in the oft-overlooked but important state of Idaho.  This straw poll win is a positive early indicator that as we focus even more on Pacific Northwest contests, Idaho will stand out as one of the states where Ron Paul has a competitive edge over his establishment competitors,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

Ron Paul Campaign Announces South Carolina TV Ad ‘Betrayal’ Aimed at Santorum

Hard-hitting television, Internet ad argues that Washington insider Rick is an untrustworthy serial hypocrite on spending and right to work

 

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today its new ad ‘Betrayal’ aimed at Rick Santorum.

 

The ad will begin airing on Monday, January 9th on television in the key early voting state of South Carolina.  In addition, the campaign has arranged for internet promotion on websites where conservatives congregate.

 

‘Betrayal’ exposes Rick Santorum as another serial hypocrite in the vein of Newt Gingrich, showcasing the former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania’s record of duplicity on issues such as spending – including raising the debt ceiling – and insider lobbying.  The ad also features Santorum’s appalling record on right to work, an issue dear to South Carolina residents but one of pivotal importance right now due to the NLRB-Boeing dispute.  The ad also includes Rick Santorum’s now-infamous confession that he is, in his own words, “no longer a deficit hawk.”

 

“Ron Paul can come to South Carolina with a clear conscience and an impeccable record on the issues important to voters there: fiscal restraint, right to work, and strict adherence to the Constitution and one’s own promises.  In addition, Dr. Paul has support from many of our armed services men and women,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

Ron Paul Polls a Strong Second in Des Moines Register Survey

Paul is steadily on the rise as his Republican competitors continue to flash and falter

 

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul polls a strong second place in a new poll commissioned by the influential Des Moines Register newspaper, revealing that the 12-term Congressman from Texas has steadily grown his support base in the first-in-nation voting state.

 

Paul garnered 18 percent among likely Republican caucus goers, close behind Newt Gingrich who earned 25 percent. With 16 percent of the vote, Mitt Romney was the only other candidate to attract double-digit support.  Especially noteworthy is that Paul, with respect to Iowa poll results, has steadily gone from low, to middling to top-place showings.

 

“The rise of Congressman Paul’s poll numbers reflects our hopes for strong, steady growth minus the media- and pundit-influenced volatility other candidates suffer.  We want to continue growing our support base incrementally and maintain the faith and trust voters put in us as they carry us toward a respectable caucus finish,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

 

“The Iowa team is plugging away using traditional retail politicking but we’re buoyed by unconventional interest in, and support for, Ron Paul.  We take today’s poll news as a compliment but we do not take it lightly, as we’re working hard in the weeks leading up to the caucus,” added Drew Ivers, Iowa chairman for the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign.

 

The Des Moines Register poll was conducted from November 27th to the 30th and is based on interviews with 2,222 registered Republican and independent voters in Iowa ages 18 or older, of which 401 are likely caucus goers.  Questions asked of the 401 likely Republican caucus goers have a margin of error of +/- 4.9 percent.  Other results based on smaller samples have a wider margin of error.  Poll results are as follows:

Ron Paul Wins First Place in 2012 Illinois Republican Pre-Presidential Straw Poll

Handily defeats GOP competitors Cain, Romney and Gingrich in online and in-person contest limited to Illinois residents

 

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul earned another straw poll victory tonight, this time winning 52 percent of 3,649 votes cast in an Illinois statewide Republican contest held online and in-person.

 

Dr. Paul handily beat Herman Cain, Mitt Romney, and Newt Gingrich, who garnered 18, 14, and 9 percent of the votes, respectively.  Rick Perry earned a mere 2.5 percent of the vote, John Huntsman 1.5 percent, Rick Santorum 1.2 percent, followed by Michele Bachmann with just 1.1 percent.

 

“This straw poll victory demonstrates the groundswell of support for Ron Paul and his winning message, as well as the organizational muscle presidential candidates require,” said Scott Davis, Illinois State Chair for the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign.  “Straw poll participants were Illinois residents who support the Illinois Republican Party and Ron Paul for the presidency, so this contest is relevant and representative.”

 

The 2012 Illinois Republican Pre-Presidential Straw Poll was the first mainly online poll of its kind.  The one-week poll began on 9:00 a.m. CT Saturday, October 29th and concluded tonight, November 5th, at 7:00 p.m. CT.  In order to participate, voters were required to be Illinois residents and to make a minimum $5 contribution benefiting the Illinois Republican Party.  The poll was taken at http://www.illinoisstrawpoll.com/.

 

Today throughout Illinois there also were a number of Republican activities where voters cast their vote in person instead of online.  U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R) was among the Republican luminaries traveling around to different county and township events today as localities hosted in-person voting opportunities.  Ron Paul was declared the winner at the Republican Party headquarters in Downtown Chicago at an event hosted by Eloise Gerson, 42nd Ward Republican Committeeman and Chicago GOP Chairwoman.  Senator Kirk was also in attendance.

Ron Paul Wins California State GOP Convention Straw Poll

Paul bests nearest competition by 15 percent

LAKE JACKSON, Texas– At today’s California state Republican fall convention, 2012 Presidential candidate Ron Paul won its presidential straw poll, picking up 45 percent of the ballots cast.

“This win is just the latest indication of our campaign’s growing momentum,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton. “Americans are sick and tired of the status quo and Dr. Paul offers a real change, and hope for a free and prosperous future.”

The convention and poll were held at the JW Marriot in downtown Los Angeles. Out of 833 ballots cast, Paul garnered the greatest number of votes with 374, beating his nearest competitor Texas Gov. Rick Perry by a wide margin. See below for breakdown of votes and percentages.

Constitution-less Conservatives

The Daily Caller’s Peter Tucci has made an interesting discovery:

“Given the amount of attention the Constitution has been getting in conservative circles lately, it’s a safe bet that it will be on many Republican voters’ minds when they cast their ballots in next year’s GOP primaries. Which is why I thought it would be interesting to see what the Republican presidential candidates’ campaign websites have to say about the Constitution.

Surprisingly, in many cases the answer is: nothing.

I couldn’t find any references to the Constitution on Mitt Romney’s campaign site…

Herman Cain often mentions the Constitution in his speeches, which is why I was puzzled when I couldn’t find any references to it on his campaign site.

Rick Santorum’s site doesn’t mention the Constitution…

I also found just one reference to the Constitution on Newt Gingrich’s campaign site…

Michele Bachmann’s slogan is ‘Restoring constitutional conservative values,’ and I found nine references to the Constitution on her campaign site…

Perry’s site makes at least seven references to the Constitution…

But Ron Paul’s site, which also promises a ‘return to constitutional principles,’ has more references to the Constitution than all of the other candidates’ sites combined. Not counting references on the campaign’s blog, I identified 42 references, including several references to the Tenth Amendment, the Second Amendment and the First Amendment. You can even purchase a ‘Constitution’ T-shirt ($18.00) and a Ron Paul pocket Constitution ($5.00) at Paul’s online store.”
